SCADA with Database always use Industrial PC for HMI. How to make backup the PC SCADA? Please read simple Tips and Tricks to make Backup PC. "It's important for your as Automation Engineer in Industries"

Making images of hard drives is a useful way of having backup copies of all your information, including your entire operative system.

For many years, only a few companies made this kind of programs and they were expensive. But now, there are some free alternatives that make this possible without spending any money. Besides, they are pushing commercial products to lower its prices because of the new competition.

The industry is lead by two applications, Acronis True Image and Norton Ghost. These two are great and include an impressive array of options that many of the free applications don’t have. But most users won’t use them anyway.

DriveImage XML

The first application i want to talk you about is DriveImage XML, from Runtime Software.

Official description:

DriveImage XML is an easy to use and reliable program for imaging and backing up partitions and logical drives.

The program allows you to:

  • Backup logical drives and partitions to image files
  • Browse these images, view and extract files
  • Restore these images to the same or a different drive
  • Copy directly from drive to drive
  • Schedule automatic backups with Windows Task Scheduler

Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 now supports Windows Vista SP1, Windows XP SP3, among other new features. You can use it to run other operating systems without modifying your hard disks or current installation of Windows.

Here’s a description from Microsoft:

Virtual PC lets you create separate virtual machines on your Windows desktop, each of which virtualizes the hardware of a complete physical computer. Use virtual machines to run operating systems such as MS-DOS, Windows, and OS/2. You can run multiple operating systems at once on a single physical computer and switch between them as easily as switching applications—instantly, with a mouse click. Virtual PC is perfect for any scenario in which you need to support multiple operating systems, whether you use it for tech support, legacy application support, training, or just for consolidating physical computers.

You can even download virtual hard disks (VHD) from Microsoft to try them on Virtual PC 2007. As far as i remember, there are Windows Vista VHD, Office 2007 and Visual Studio 2008.

So, if you are among the people who haven’t tried Vista yet, now is the time to do so.

Check the system requirements to make sure you can run it.

"For Automation System such as HMI/SCADA testing, it will be better if use Virtual PC. It will help a lot before you create on Real PC. Especially for system integrator Virtual PC is solution to make test platform and test some configuration".

SIMATIC WinCC flexible Engineering SW Highest configuration efficiency

Labels: , , ,

Configuration Tools

Simple and convenient user interface

When using WinCC flexible Engineering Software you carry out configuration using up to 32 screen layers. For configuring the screens, you have available convenient functions for zooming in and out, for rotating and aligning objects, as well as a range of intelligent tools.

Using the Project Wizard, for example, you can create a basic project, including navigation and system screens, using just a few user default settings. The system uses dialogs to navigate you through to choose the desired objects and to create the project at the push of a button..

Fig. Selecting Hardware componets of a project using the project wizzard

Graphic configuration makes it easier to carry out complex configuration tasks like defining motion paths or creating screen navigation.

Screenshot: Graphic configuration of a motion path with WinCC flexible ES
Fig. Graphic configuration of a motion path with WinCC flexible ES

Table-based editors make it easier to create and edit objects of the same type, e.g. for variables, texts or messages

Convenient find and replace functions allow you to carry out a project- wide search for objects, to carry out central rewiring of variables and to find and replace texts. Apart from this, the cross reference list gives you direct access to all the objects in the project.

Handling graphics in different formats is much easier. Using a graphics browser, you can display supplied graphics and your own pictures, process them and integrate them in a project screen using Drag & Drop. If you want to process the image, the system automatically starts the associated external editor.

Faceplate technology

WinCC flexible has a large number of basic and enhanced objects and graphics that are scalable and can be dynamized;you can use these objects in your pictures. The Symbol Factory, for example, contains a large number of general and vertical market representations with different colour depths. Apart from this, you can combine project-specific faceplates from simple picture objects and store them in the library.
You can now use tags to interconnect the dynamic properties of a faceplate‘s picture elements, e.g. the design and visibility.
This means that at runtime you can, for example, hide and display individual components of the faceplate or of the complete faceplate in dependence on a tag value. You can carry out modifications in the entire project from one central location and the system then changes the module at the same time in all the screens of the project where it is used.

Fig. Interconnection dialog for faceplates

You can use faceplates without needing to invest a lot of time and effort in wiring, since they can be linked with structured data types. Each time you use the faceplate in a picture, you only need to configure one structure variable of the same data type on the faceplate to establish the complete link.

Scripting

As standard, WinCC flexible offers a large number of dynamic options for objects. However,  if you want to be even more flexible, in projects with 270 Series Panels and above you have available VBScript, which is a powerful and easy to learn script language based on Visual Basic. You can immediately leverage your Visual Basic knowledge. The IntelliSense function allows you to quickly program accesses to runtime objects and to simply establish control sequences within the script. Script debugging is possible during engineering using the Simulator and, if required, at runtime.

Fig. Integrating scripts into the function list

Import- und Export functions

You can export any configured messages from a project to CSV files. These exported data can be expanded externally (with MS Excel, for example) and reimported in a project. Reuse reduces configuration effort for new projects. All properties of a message will be imported. A test routine ensures that there are no messages with the same message number in the target project. You can use the export-import function to exchange message texts that are to be set up in several languages with translators.
You can also export and import tag data. This way you can import tags from different control programs (Step 7, AllanBradley, etc.) in WinCC flexible projects. There are converters for the programming software of the major vendors (Rockwell RS Logix500, Modicon Telemecanique PL7, GE Fanuc VersaPro). These converters translate the vendor-specific formats into the Excel format so that all tag information can be imported to WinCC flexible at the touch of a button.

Alarms and logging system

Alarms and messages

The system generates messages in WinCC flexible in three ways:

  • Bit messages,
  • Analog messages
  • Messages via message frame alarm procedure Alarm_S/Alarm_D with SIMATIC S7

Using freely defi nable message classes, you can determine the acknowledgement response and the representation of the alarm events.

Logs/reports

In WinCC flexible, you can output logs or reports on a time- or event-driven basis. In this context, you can design the layout in any way you like.

User administration

Even the basic system guarantees access protection which means that only authorized personnel have access within the scope of their responsibility at the operator panel. In this context, each user is assigned to a user group with defined function privileges.
This prevents unauthorized users from changing recipes or starting process steps without permission, for example.
Apart from this,  two-component authorization comprising a user ID and password, password aging (to ensure that passwords are renewed on a regular basis), blocking users by the administrator and automatic logout if users are inactive for a relatively long period of time are additional system functions that ensure high quality standards in production.

With WinCC flexible 2008 new functions have been added:

  • Adjustable number of invalid login attempts
  • Optionally, the login can be reduced to just the password
  • Hierarchical authorizations among the administrators
  • Individual groups can be excluded from the password aging
  • Hidden password entry

Allen-Bradley SL500™

Labels: , , , , ,

Understanding the basic features of the SLC500™ (Small Logic Controller) in your facility will maximize your productivity. The SLC500 includes fault detection with built-in diagnostics. Understanding these features is critical to running an efficient operation.

Battery

A lithium battery retains the SLC500 memory. The battery is located in the Central Processing Unit (CPU) next to the power supply of the SLC500 rack. Replace the battery on an annual basis or if the low battery signal activates. The Besser part number for the battery is 113773F00BA.

Fuses

A fuse protects the SLC500 power supply and, if burned out, will cause the indicator light to turn off. The fuse will open due to an incoming power problem or a short condition within the power supply. Insure the replacement fuse is equivalent to the one being replaced. The fuse is a 3 amp time-delay – Besser part number 111847.

Memory Loss

A power surge or a low battery may result in memory loss. The CPU fault light will illuminate to indicate a problem. To restore the memory, turn the panel power OFF. Insert the Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) into the socket of the CPU and restore the power. The SLC500 will automatically read the EEPROM into Random Access Memory (RAM) and go into RUN mode. The CPU RUN light will illuminate to indicate a successful transfer. Turn the power OFF and remove the EEPROM from the unit. Note: In the case of Besser Lithibar equipment, the EEPROM remains in the unit. If a memory loss occurs, power cycle the SLC500 and the unit will return to run mode.

Preventive Maintenance for Electrical Panels and Graphic Display Units

Labels: , ,

"Cleanliness is the Best Policy" when it comes to maintaining electrical equipment in a concrete products facility. Focusing on a few simple practices will extend the life of electrical panels and graphic display units that are connected to your equipment.

Best Practices:

  1. Keep panel doors and box covers closed. Dust and moisture are two of the biggest enemies of electrical devices.

  2. Remove debris from electrical components. Heat build-up can occur when electrical devices are covered with dust or concrete. Dirt, once inside a component, is trouble.

  3. On a monthly basis, check electrical connections and keep them tight. A loose wire either in a panel or on the machine will cause electrical arcing. Arcing can cause intermittent machine operation and eventually a breakdown.

  4. Keep electrical wiring diagrams, logic documents and operating manuals clean, neat and easily accessible. Plant personnel will need these items to effectively troubleshoot the equipment.

  5. Ensure tags and labels are readable and securely attached to electrical devices. This will help identify items when servicing the equipment.

Overall plant efficiency and productivity is increased with preventive maintenance. The added effort will pay for itself in the long run. Maintaining a clean facility also improves the overall atmosphere. Employees will show more pride when their workplace is neat and organized. Attitudes are more upbeat which positively affects work quality. An uncluttered environment also promotes safety.

DF1 to DH+ Passthru using WinLinx or RSLinx

Labels: , , , ,

For OLD Application...

SLC 5/04 processors (OS401 and greater) support DF1 to DH+ Passthru. With this feature, you can connect to a 5/04 processor through Channel 0 using the DF1 protocol and access any node on the DH+ network, regardless of the baud rate of the DH+ network. It is also possible to connect a modem to Channel 0 and connect to any node on the DH+ network via modems.

At this time only PanelView devices at FRN 3.3 or higher can be accessed using the SLC 5/04 passthru. Pre FRN 3.3 PanelViews do not recognize PCCC messaging which is the protocol used on the DH+ side of the SLC. An alternate bridge solution would be a 1770-KF2. The customer should consult their local distributor for other hardware, serial to DH+ bridge, solutions or firmware upgrades.

To use this functionality with the RSLogix 500 software, you need to use the following procedure:

PROCESSOR SETTINGS:

RSLogix500

1) Configure Channel 0 of the 5/04 processor for System Mode using Full-Duplex. This can be done by accessing the Channel Configuration Window and choosing the appropriate settings.

**Note the Passthru Link ID setting for Channel 1 (which is 2) and Channel 0 (which is 1). If channel's 1 and 0 have the same link ID's then RSLinx/RSWho will not see through to the DH+ network.

2) You must then access the Chan 0 Tab on the Processor Status File and disable the DH485 to DH+ Passthru and enable DF1 to DH+ Passthru by setting both S:34/0 AND S:34/5 high. Note: If you want to view active DH+ nodes in the 5/04 status table, S:34/1 must also be set.

The above settings must then be downloaded to the processor using either Winlinx or RSLinx. Once the program has been downloaded, comms drivers must be altered as detailed below to see the entire DH+ network. Also note that the driver verification in Winlinx and Auto-Configure in RSLinx will no longer function correctly since DF1 packets are being passed through Chan 1. Both functions will still determine the baud rate, but acknowledgements will no longer be received causing the error checking to fail.

COMMUNICATION SETTINGS:

WinLinx

The uLogic/KF3/CH0 driver was initially used to download the project to the 5/04. This driver must be deleted from Winlinx and the KF2/KE driver must be used instead. Be sure to set the correct baud rate and turn on the Don't Verify Settings radio button. Click OK to accept the driver changes. The SuperWho screen will poll address 1-77 and display any active DH+ nodes.

RSLinx v1.7

To download the program, recall that the Device Type option was initially set to SLC-CH0. Change this to KF2/KE and click on OK.

Select Communications > SuperWho and 'right-click' anywhere inside the Who screen and choose Configure SuperWho. In the dialog box, change the Station Update Mode from Graphical (default) to Normal and click OK. The resulting Who screen will begin polling from node 1 thru 77 octal and display all devices connected to the DH+ network.

Remember, the RSLogix500 Who configuration is separate from the RSLinx Who configuration. Be sure that the Normal mode is chosen in both configurations.

Note: RSLinx 1.7 requires that one of the nodes on the DH+ network be set to station 1. If none of the nodes are set to 1 nothing will appear in the SuperWho. This is not a requirement for RSLinx revision 2.1.

RSLinx v2.0

Once the program has been downloaded, in the driver configuration dialog, change the Device Type to 1770-KF2/1785-KE and click OK. Click Close to save the change. If Autobrowsing is enabled, the RSWho will automatically poll the DH+ network using your AB_DF1 driver.

Note: RSLinx 2.0 requires that one of the nodes on the DH+ network be set to station 1. If none of the nodes are set to 1 nothing will appear in the RSWho. This is not a requirement for RSLinx revision 2.1 (or higher).

Butterfly Valve Installation

Labels: , , ,

Learn In Detail...

Proper Installation Techniques must be followed to prevent immediate or premature failure of Butterfly valve seat, disc or shaft on any size or make wafer-style Butterfly valves.

PROPER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE IMPROPER TECHNIQUES
Pipework opened to allow free valve entry with the disc in a semi-closed position.

Pipework not spread sufficiently - could tear rubber seat. Disc in open position will hit flange and score disc edge.

Valve in semi-closed position to (1) protect disc edge, (2) reduce rubber interference during installation and start-up, and (3) help reduce initial torque build-up.

Disc as shown in fully closed position causes seat distortion. When flanges are drawn up, rubber will close around disc edge creating excessive torque in initial operation.

Disc should be turned to full open position after flange alignment and before evenly pulling up flange bolts.

Incorrect pipe alignment will cause interference between disc edge and flange face creating leakage and excessive torque for opening valve.

Software PLC - SIMATIC WinAC RTX 2008

Labels: , , , ,

WinAC RTX 2008 is used when high performance, high data volumes and at the same time hard real time are required for the automation task. The optimized runtime system supports the processing of extensive and demanding PC applications in parallel with the control task. The performance of WinAC RTX 2008 can be scaled across the PC platform.

Applications range from machine-level control tasks with rugged embedded PCs to high-end applications on PCs with enhanced performance (e.g. SIMATIC Rack PCs).

Platforms

SIMATIC WinAC RTX 2008 runs on standard PCs wit Windows XP Professional.yet excellently fits to SIMATIC Industrial PCs.In particular, the use on embedded PC platforms such as the SIMATIC Microbox PC 427B or Panel PC 477B with Windows XP Embedded results in cost-effective and very rugged solutions. The Microbox PC 427B is characterized by its diskless and fanless operation. WinAC RTX 2008 uses the main memory of the PCs and offers program backup on the hard disk. Non-cyclic data such as production parameters or recipe data can be stored permanently on the PC's hard disk with the help of system functions (SFC 82 – 84). In addition, all data can be held retentively in conjunction with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

I/O connection

Employing WinAC RTX 2008 it is possible to connect the I/O via PROFINET. This requires either the integrated Ethernet interface of the SIMATIC PC or a CP 1616 (PCI) or CP 1604 (PCI-104) communications processor.Open User Communication permits open communication of WinAC RTX 2008 via TCP and UDP. Open data exchange with any communication partner via the PROFINET interface is possible. WinAC RTX 2008 makes use of the TSEND/TRECV blocks for this purpose; they are available as library for all SIMATIC S7 CPUs. In addition I/O can be connected via PROFIBUS DP at up to 12 Mbit/s via the integral DP interface of the SIMATIC PCs or via communications processors (CP 5611 A2/5613 A2). Up to four PROFIBUS lines can be operated with up to 500 slaves.

Isochronous mode

In addition, with its PROFIBUS interfaces WinAC RTX 2008 also supports the system function isochronous mode. With isochronous mode, high-speed, time-dependent applications such as closed-loop controls can also be implemented with distributed I/O. This means that in addition to the control job other functions can be integrated into a PC or smaller, more economical PCs can be used for the same job.

Retentivity

On exiting, WinAC RTX 2008 saves all the data declared as retentive to the hard disk. In order to ensure a defined shutdown of the Software PLC in the event of an unexpected failure of the PC voltage supply, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS, e.g. SITOP DC UPS) can be used. SIMATIC PCs with integrated, non-volatile memory enable up to 128 KB of retentive data to be stored in the event of voltage dip, regardless of the file system. For SIMATIC PCs without integrated, non-volatile memory, the WinAC NV128 plug-in card is available. This enables up to 128 KB of retentive data to be stored. Depending on the version of the PC, however, the use of a UPS may be necessary.
Bahasa: Software ini sangat cocok jika dimiliki oleh perusahaan-perusahaan sistem integrator atau system developer yang menggunakan SIEMENS.

S7-300/400 CPUs: Temperature Recording in the S7-CPU by Means of Pt100 Resistivity Thermometer and SITRANS TK-L Measuring Transducer

    Labels: , , ,

    Problem

Almost everywhere where products or materials are processed or worked, the temperature has a decisive influence on the quality of the final product and the course of the process respectively. It is thus necessary to record the temperature, to interpret its influence and to specifically react to changes in temperature using control technology.

    Solution

The device combination of SIMATIC products and SIEMENS temperature sensors including measuring transducers is an excellent solution to the mentioned problem. In this application, a Pt100 sensor records the temperature of a measuring object and a SITRANS TK-L measuring transducer converts the sensor's measuring signal into an injected current which is supplied to an analog input of the compact CPU. The current temperature measurement value is displayed both numerically and as a bar chart on a TP170A touch panel.

Using the special STEP7 application software, which you can download (see below), it is additionally possible to ...

    • define seven temperature ranges which are displayed on the touch panel and represented by DO bits. These bits can be used to trigger various user actions.

    • display limit temperature violations requiring acknowledgement, react to them (in the program) and acknowledge them.

    • provide the last insufficient or excess temperature with a time stamp.

The WinCC flexible configuration of the TP170A is integrated in the STEP7 project. The user interface languages German and English can be selected.
